About CASA
We all know how demanding and time consuming architecture schools can be and how little time there is available for other activities such as participating in competitions. In 2009, a small group of students from Romania had the initiative to merge the two worlds - the studio and the competition.
Since 2010, the competition, known throughout the student studios as CASA (“house” in Romanian), is organized annually in Romania, and starting from the 15th edition also abroad. For most of the architecture schools in Romania it is the main focus of the second semester of the second year.
Almost every faculty in Romania has adopted the design task as the main subject of study for their students, and from 2023 onwards, with the continuous participation of the Debrecen faculty of architecture, the competition is open to any international collaboration.
All students are invited to participate in the contest, starting with the design task presentation to get to know each other and to exchange experiences and most importantly, take part in the semester-long marathon which is CASA.
CASA is supported by The Romanian Order of Architects and financed through Timbrul Arhitecturii. The contest is organised by Asociatia Studentilor de Arhitectura din Cluj (Architecture Students Association from Cluj) with help from Asociația de la 4 (Association from 4), and studio professor from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of Cluj-Napoca, Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of Timișoara, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Cadastre and Architecture of Oradea, Faculty of Architecture of Sibiu, Faculty of Architecture of Târgu Mureș, Faculty of Architecture of Debrecen and Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences of Gyor.
